Phool Makhana Kheer

An Indian dessert made with lotus seeds,mixed nuts and milk

 Krishna Janmashstami is the  celebration of lord Krishna's birth and a major celebration of Hindu's,so celebrated with lots of joy ,zeal and enthusiasm.Major celebrations takes at midnight, as Krishna is said to have made his divine appearance at that time.Fasting ,bhajans ,dancing ,pooja and many rituals and celebrations mark this auspicious occasion.Different types of prasads are made to offer Shri Krishna which are mostly made with milk ,curd and nuts.
Today I made phool makhana kheer and mewa paag(nuts are roasted ,crushed and cooked in thick sugar syrup, a slightly different version of chikki)

INGREDIENTS-
  • Milk-750 gms
  • Phool makhana-60gms
  • Sugar-3/4 to 1 cup
  • Almonds-15
  • Pistachio-10
  • Cashew nuts-10
  • Chiroli-2 tsp
  • Cardamom powder-1/2 tsp
  • Saffron-1/4 tsp
PROCEDURE-
  1. Heat 2 tsp ghee in a pan and roast makhana on low flame till they become crisp.
  2. Let them cool down completely and then take 1/4 makhanas and just crush them slightely or pulse to make 2-3 piece of a makhana.
  3. Coarsely grind the rest of the makhana and make a coarse powder.
  4. Coarsely grind or crush the almond ,pista and cashews.
  5. Boil milk in a heavy bottom pan for 5 minutes.
  6. Now add ground phool makhana and nuts and cook on low flame for approx-15 minutes
  7. Add sugar and cook for 10 minutes ,keep stirring.
  8. Add cardamom powder and saffron.
  9. Serve hot or cold
